The Memory Box

Children's Ministry Magazine

memoryboxarticleChildren especially struggle when someone they love dies. So a memory box is a great way to help them feel close to the person they've lost. Help your child through grief by creating a special box to provide comfort and security during a difficult time.

You'll need a shoe box, gift wrap, decorating supplies, a marker, photographs, and special items related to the individual who's passed away.

Help your child gift wrap the shoe box and lid separately. Your child can select photos with special meaning and write the date and the occasion on the back of each one. Include special stories or drawings of memories or treasured times spent together. Even personal effects such as buttons or jewelry make good remembrances. Your child can add to the memory box over time.

As you create and fill the box, discuss heaven and eternal life with your child.
