How to Create Photo CDs—from "Reaching Out"

Here are easy steps to create your own photo CD to promote your children's program.

You'll need a computer with a CD writeable drive (CD burner), recordable CDs (available at office supply stores in bulk quantities), CD labels, your downloaded photos, and Microsoft Word.

1. Download the photos you plan to use in the photo CD onto your computer desktop.
2. Open Microsoft Word and create a new file.
3. To insert photos from your desktop: Go to "View" then "Toolbars" then "Drawing." Then click on the "Insert picture" icon on the Drawing Toolbar. Select "Desktop" when prompted to "Choose a Picture." Select your picture from your desktop and click on "Insert." When the picture is placed in your document, you can resize it and move it as needed by clicking on it.
4. To create text: Click on the "Text Box" icon on the Drawing Toolbar. Place your cursor where you'd like the text box to appear and click. Type in your desired text and format as you would normally.
5. Once complete, save your file to your recordable CD. Recordable CDs can't be written over, so once you've saved the file to it, it's permanent and unchangeable. These are less expensive than rewriteable CDs, which can be written over, but they work best for this application because recipients of the photo CDs can't alter the file once it's opened.
