Tortilla paintings

Materials:
Flour tortillas
Food coloring
Paintbrush
scissors

Instructions:
Dilute desired food coloring with water and use paintbrush to make designs on tortillas.

Toast Painting

Materials:
Bread (slice per child)
Milk
Food Coloring
Small Cups
Small Paint Brushes
Toaster
Margarine
Plastic Knife
Napkins/or Paper Plate

Instructions:
Pour several cups I/2 full of milk. Add different food color to each cup. Allow each child
to paint their bread with the paint brushes, using the colored milk as the paint. Encour­age them to "paint" the object that goes with the season you are celebrating. (ie. Heart for Valentines day, flower for Spring etc.) Toast bread when finished painting. Spread with margarine. Children are delighted:

Peanut Butter Play Dough

Here's a play dough recipe you can eat!

Ingredients:
2 cups peanut butter
2 cups powdered milk
3 tablespoons honey

Instructions:
In a medium bowl combine peanut butter, powdered milk, and honey, Mix together well. If too sticky, add more powdered milk, one tablespoon at a time. Decorate with chopped nuts, raisins or candy. Be sure to wash your hands before playing with the dough.

Tube Bird Feeders

Materials:
Paper Towel Tube
Hole punch
Peanut butter
Birdseed
Craft sticks
Pan to hold seed

Instructions:
Pour birdseed in the pan and smooth it out. Punch two holes in the top of the roll. Have children smear the roll with peanut butter using a craft stick. Then roll the tube in the birdseed. Thread the yarn through the holes in the tube and tie a knot at the top. The bird feeder is ready to hang.

Bunny Suckers

Materials:
Suckers
White Pom poms
Pink Pom poms
White felt
Pink felt
Scissors
Glue (hot glue)
Wiggle eyes
Curl ribbon
Pipe cleaners or yarn

Instructions:
Cut out ears and glue to the top of the sucker. Then glue eyes into place just below ears. Hot glue whiskers on and then the white pom poms for the cheeks and the pink pom poms for the nose. Tie curling ribbon on the stick and curl with scissors.

Potholder Present

Supplies:
Potholder (preferably a light color)
Fabric paint
Paintbrush (a foam one if possible)
Permanent marker

Instructions:

Use the permanent marker to write a scripture, message, or the child’s name and age onto the bottom or back of the potholder. Paint child’s hand with desired color of fabric paint and press onto the center of the potholder. Your finished.

Cookie Cutter Creations

Supplies:
Cookie cutters
Tempera paint or fabric paint
Paper plates
Cardstock or construction paper
Container of water
Optional: T-shirts

Instructions:

Fold card in half. Write a message inside the card before you decorate the outside of it. Pour a thin layer of paint onto a paper plate. Decide on design and choose cookie cutters. Dip desired cookie cutter into paint on plate and then onto card until the design is complete. Let it dry. Soak cookie cutters in water and clean them up later.

Optional: Have each child bring a T-shirt to class instead and make a gift for a parent or friend.

Bunny Bags

Materials:
Brown or white lunch sacks
Scissors
Markers or Crayons
Easter grass
Cotton balls
Pom poms
Pipe cleaners or yarn

Instructions:
Cut center section from top part of folded paper bag, about halfway down bag (see sketch) Have children color a face and ears on the bag or have younger children color and cut out ready  made face and paste on bag (attached). Or make a 3 D rabbit using Pom poms, cotton balls and pipe Cleaners. Over­lap ears at top of bag and staple or tape together.

Bubble Art

Supplies:
Bubble Wrap
Scissors
White or light construction paper
Tempera paints
Paint brushes
Plastic containers to hold paint
Water to clean brushes

Instructions:

Children can create unique art prints using plastic bubble wrap. Have each child cut out a shape such as a butterfly or a heart from the bubble wrap. Have children cover one side of their wrap design with paint and then press the painted side onto a sheet of paper. Remove the wrap for a colorful, textured print.

 

Candy Dishes

Materials:
Clay pot with bottom saucer
Colored wooden knob or bead
White, yellow, pink, purple, and green paint
Q-tips and glue
Candy

Optional: gloss sealer

Instructions:
Make festive candy jars by pre-painting the clay pots and saucers white ahead of time (this will probably take two coats of paint). Pour a quarter size amount of the colored paints onto a paper plate for each child. Have the child paint the sides of the pot and the saucer using the Q-tips. When the paint has dried glue the wooden knob to the center of the saucer to make the lid. For older children you may want to draw in a few details with a permanent marker. Fill the clay pot with candy and cover with the lid.

Optional:

You may want to paint these candy dishes with a gloss sealer for protection. If so, allow an extra week for this project to be complete.

Leather Look Gift

Materials:
Soup Can
Masking tape
Brown shoe polish
Paper towels

Instructions:
Start with a clean and dry soup can. Tear off pieces of masking tape and place all over can until completely covered. Apply polish to can with paper towel and allow to dry.

Colored Salt

Materials:
Salt
Ziploc bags
Tempera paint powder
Baby food jars
Toothpicks

Instructions:

Put 1 cup of salt and 1 tablespoon of tempera paint in Ziploc bag. Shake the bag until well mixed. Pour colored salt into baby jars in different designs. Use the toothpicks to give you different affects.

Gift Toppers/Ornaments

Supplies:
Colored craft foam
Scissors and glue
Hole punch
Ribbon, yarn or raffia, etc.
Assorted cookie cutters
Black pen or thin marker
Optional: dimensional paint

Instructions:

Place the desired cookie cutter shape on top of the craft foam and trace it with a pen. Carefully cut it out and punch a hole in the top of each ornament/gift topper. Punch or cut out desired shapes form different colored foam to decorate the gift topper/ornament with and glue them on. Use a pen to add detail if needed. Loop ribbon through the hold and tie it together at the top. Tie it on to a gift or hang it on a tree.

Torn Paper Cards

Supplies:
White cardstock or construction paper
Colored construction paper
Glue
Markers or crayons

Instructions:
Fold white paper in half. Decide on a simple design or theme depending on the holiday or lesson. Have children choose the colors of construction paper they want to use and draw their design lightly with a pencil. Let them begin tearing their design carefully and don’t worry if it’s not perfect. Remember to keep the shapes simple. Lay torn paper design onto the card and arrange until pleased. Glue down the torn paper (use glue sparingly) and write a message on or inside the card.

Fingerprint Critters

Supplies:
White cardstock or construction paper
Colored ink stamp pads
Markers or crayons
Baby wipes

Instructions:

Decide on a critter and press finger onto stamp pad and then on to the paper. Make sure to wipe off finger with baby wipe whenever the child is changing colors and when the child is finished. After all critters are made, use markers or crayons to add details to them. Children may also color in the background of their picture around their critters. Have fun with it.
