If you start to fidget in your chair when the words “money” and “ministry” come into the same sentence, rest assured you’re not alone. How do you put a price tag on being a fisher of men, or rather, small children? And while you may’ve happily traded your Gucci bag for a plastic tote box years ago, nowhere is it written that you can’t ask for fair compensation for your time and talents—nope, not even in the Bible. Perhaps it would help you to see a bigger financial picture of children’s ministry across the country. Our 2008 Salary Survey provides insights that can help you gauge your current situation and maybe even make the “m-o-n-e-y” word less painful for you. Of course, our survey can’t measure the intangibles (nor can the IRS collect on them) that make children’s ministry such a rewarding career, but you already know about those. Here’s the Scoop: We conducted research via the Web this year. Of the more than 11,900 possible participants, we received 611 responses. This gives us a sampling error range of +/- 3.86 percent.
